Day 1

Arrival in Ashgabat

Welcome to Ashgabat, easily one of the strangest and most fascinating capitals on the planet. Think Las Vegas meets a marble palace, but with almost no people on the streets. Fun fact: Ashgabat actually holds the Guinness World Record for the highest concentration of white-marble buildings — and trust us, your eyes will need a minute to adjust.

After checking in, we head out to explore this shiny fever dream of a city. Gold statues everywhere, spotless boulevards, streetlights and bus stops all colour-coordinated — it’s extra in the best possible way. By night, it’s so quiet that locals jokingly call it the “City of the Dead.” (You’ll see what they mean!)

Then we switch gears and dive into some ancient magic at the Nissa Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage site that was once the powerhouse of the Parthian Empire. These guys ruled huge chunks of Central Asia, so wandering through the ruins feels like stepping into a history book with better lighting.

We wrap up at the National Museum, checking out everything from Silk Route treasures to quirky archaeological finds that explain the madness and brilliance of this region.

It’s the perfect first day — a mix of weird, wow, ancient, modern, and totally MonkeyInc-approved chaos.

Day 2

Ashqabat: Marble Madness & Golden Horses

Today we dive deeper into Ashgabat, the world’s unofficial capital of extra. First stop: the shiny Palace of Happiness, perched on a hill with sweeping desert views. Fun fact — Turkmen couples come here to get married, and honestly, the place looks like a wedding cake made of white marble and ambition.

We wander through Independence Park, home to massive monuments that look like they were designed with the brief: “make it dramatic.” Then comes Archabil Street, Ashgabat’s futuristic runway of geometric buildings and spotless pavements — everything glinting under that intense Turkmen sun. Keep an eye out for the giant indoor Ferris wheel, because yes, Ashgabat has the largest indoor Ferris wheel in the world (because of course it does). A stroll through Serdar Yolly Park brings a rare quiet moment, and the entrance to the Way of Health — a 36km walking path built by the former president — adds another layer of “only in Turkmenistan” energy.

Next, we hit the Memorial Complex, a striking tribute to the Civil War, WWII and the devastating 1948 earthquake that flattened the city and remains one of the deadliest quakes ever recorded. Heavy history, powerful storytelling, and architecture that makes you pause.

Then it’s time to shift into local mode at the lively Russian Market — fresh produce, colourful stalls, friendly chaos, and a couple of Soviet-era statues (hello, Lenin and Pushkin) hiding between modern boulevards. It’s the perfect crash course in Turkmen everyday life.

We wrap up the day at Geok Depe Stable, where the legendary Akhal-Teke horses — the “golden horses” of Turkmenistan — show off their metallic coats. These beauties are one of the oldest and rarest horse breeds in the world, prized for their endurance and shimmering glow.

A day of sparkle, Soviet nostalgia, marble overload, and magic — classic MonkeyInc territory.
