Paro to Punakha

Wake before dawn and feel the crisp mountain air of Paro as you set out towards the legendary Taktsang Monastery. Clinging dramatically to a sheer cliff, this sacred site rewards every step of the ascent. Begin the round-trip hike and follow forested trails scented with pine, prayer flags fluttering overhead. Climb steadily, pause at viewpoints, and take in sweeping vistas of the valley below. You sense the spiritual energy that has drawn pilgrims here for centuries. Enter the monastery complex and admire its intricate murals, golden statues and serene shrines carved into rock.

There are scenic mountain drives between Paro, Punakha and Thimphu. While the distances are not extensive, winding roads may make journeys feel longer. Regular comfort stops are included.

March is a delightful time to visit Bhutan, as the country transitions into spring with clear skies, fresh mountain air and blossoming landscapes. Daytime temperatures typically range from 12°C to 24°C, with Punakha being slightly warmer, while Thimphu and Paro remain pleasantly cool. Evenings and early mornings can be brisk, especially in higher-altitude areas, so light layers are recommended. Rainfall is generally minimal during this month, making it ideal for sightseeing, scenic drives and gentle hikes.
